Not all transactions take the same amount of time. How long you'll wait depends on what type of transaction you're doing and how busy the blockchain network is.
Buying crypto
Method | Typical processing time |
Coinme Cash (Walmart, CVS, and more) | 9 to 15 minutes after paying at the register (up to 1 hour) |
Coinstar kiosk | 9 to 15 minutes after completing at the kiosk (up to 1 hour) |
Debit card in app | A few minutes in most cases |
The "up to 1 hour" window for cash purchases accounts for the time it takes the retailer to confirm receipt of your payment and for Coinme to process the transaction.
Sending crypto
When you send crypto from your Coinme wallet to an external wallet, the transaction needs to be confirmed by the blockchain network. Processing time depends on the cryptocurrency.
Cryptocurrency | Typical confirmation time |
Bitcoin (BTC) | 10 to 60 minutes (depends on network congestion and fees) |
Ethereum (ETH) | 1 to 5 minutes |
Litecoin (LTC) | 2 to 5 minutes |
Solana (SOL) | Under 1 minute |
XRP | Under 1 minute |
Stellar (XLM) | 3 to 5 seconds |
Dogecoin (DOGE) | About 1 minute |
These are estimates under normal conditions. During periods of heavy network traffic, confirmations can take longer, especially for Bitcoin.
Selling crypto
Method | Typical processing time |
Sell to debit card (in app) | Crypto is debited immediately; funds on card may take 1 to 5 business days depending on your bank |
Sell for cash at a ReadyCode location | Crypto is debited immediately; cash is dispensed at the machine |
Why do some transactions take longer?
Network congestion. When lots of people are using the same blockchain at the same time, transactions queue up. Bitcoin is the most common example. During busy periods, transactions can take an hour or more.
Low network fee. Some blockchains prioritize transactions with higher fees. If the network fee at the time of your transaction was low, your transaction might wait in line longer.
Retailer confirmation (cash purchases). For Coinme Cash transactions, Coinme waits for the retailer's systems to confirm your payment before releasing crypto to your wallet. This is a safety measure.
What to do if your transaction is taking longer than expected
Step 1: Check the status in the app
Look at your recent activity to see if the transaction shows "Processing" or "Pending."
Step 2: Wait
Most delays resolve on their own. For cash purchases, give it up to 1 hour. For send transactions, give it up to a few hours during peak congestion.
Step 3: Don't send the same transaction again
Sending a duplicate can cause confusion and may result in double-spending issues.
Step 4: Contact support if still stuck
If the transaction hasn't resolved after the timeframes above, reach out to Coinme Customer Support.
