Common troubleshooting steps for verifying your debit card

Updated over a week ago

Coinme uses Micro-transactions to assist in validating the card information when adding a new card to your account.

Issues can arise with micro-transactions such as the transactions not appearing in your card's account, or the micro-transactions being denied by the card-issuing financial institution.

Important: Some micro-transactions can take up to 2 business days to appear in your card's account.

Are you using a valid debit card?

Cards currently accepted:

  • Debit Mastercard for Buy transactions

  • Debit Visa card for Buy and Sell transactions

Pro Tip: The best practice is to use a debit card from a Bank or Credit Union that is FDIC approved

Cards currently not accepted:

  • Credit Cards

  • Cards from digital-based institutions such as Paypal, and Venmo

  • Cards that are unable to perform micro-transactions

Please review the information below as it can assist you in successfully verifying your debit card:

Does your institution require you to verify an initial transaction?

Some institutions may send you a text or email asking you to authorize micro-transactions from Coinme when the first micro-transaction is attempted. This is a way for them to verify that it is a valid transaction.

If you receive a text message from your bank, you need to allow Coinme to send micro-transactions in order to successfully link your debit card to your account.

These types of security validation requests typically result in the initial micro-transactions being denied by the financial institution, resulting in your card being denied on your Coinme account.

If this happens even after you have confirmed that it is a valid transaction as requested by your financial institution, follow these two steps in order to try to verify your debit card again:

The new set of micro-transactions should now go through as expected.

What do the transactions look like?

Micro-transactions display as pending transactions in your card's account. You may need to reach out to your financial institution to view pending transactions if you are unable to view them.

How micro-transactions appear in your bank account varies depending on the institution, below are a couple of examples of how they may appear in your account:
