What to do if you've been scammed at a Coinstar Kiosk

Instructed to deposit cash at a Coinstar Kiosk? Read this first

If someone has told you to deposit cash into a Coinstar Kiosk as part of a request or payment β€” stop. This is a common cryptocurrency scam tactic, and you do not need to be a Coinme customer to report it or get help.

Legitimate companies, government agencies, and law enforcement will never ask you to deposit cash into a Coinstar Kiosk as payment. If you've received this kind of instruction, it is a scam.

If you haven't deposited money yet

Do not deposit any cash. Walk away from the Kiosk.

Verify the request independently. If you're unsure whether the request is legitimate, contact the organization that supposedly made it using an official phone number or website β€” not contact information provided by the person who told you to deposit funds.

Report the scam attempt. Contact your local law enforcement using their non-emergency line. You can also notify Coinme by completing the Customer Protection Form.

If you've already deposited money

Gather documentation. Collect any receipts, transaction records, and records of communication with the scammer β€” screenshots, phone numbers, emails, or any other details you have.

Report to law enforcement. File a report with your local law enforcement agency and provide all the documentation you've gathered. You can also file online at ic3.gov.

Notify Coinme. Complete the Customer Protection Form to inform our team of the incident. This helps us investigate and support any related case.

Monitor your financial accounts. Watch for any unusual activity across your bank accounts or cards and report anything suspicious to your financial institution immediately.

If you've already filed a police report

Follow up with law enforcement. Stay in contact with the agency handling your case for updates or any additional steps they may need from you.

Submit the Customer Protection Form if you haven't already: Customer Protection Form. Update it if new information becomes available.

Reach out to consumer protection agencies for additional support. The FTC accepts reports at ftc.gov/complaint.
