When you first create a Coinme account, you won't be able to complete any transactions. Identity verification is required to transact on Coinme. The verification method you choose determines which features and transaction limits you'll have access to. This article walks you through both available verification methods.

Verify with Social Security Number (recommended)
Verify with Social Security Number (recommended)
This is the fastest way to verify your account and unlock the highest transaction limits.
Step 1: Enter your SSN
Enter your Social Security Number and tap Continue. Your information is encrypted and secure.
Step 2: Review your information
Review the information retrieved using your SSN — full name, address, last digits of SSN, date of birth, and mobile phone number. If anything is incorrect, select Edit next to the relevant section. Once everything looks accurate, tap Continue.
Step 3: Verification complete
Your account has been upgraded! You are now approved to transact up to $5,000 in cash per day and $20,000 in digital payments per day. Tap Transact Now to get started.
What if something goes wrong? If you're unable to verify your account on your first attempt, you can try a second time. If both attempts are unsuccessful, please contact Coinme Customer Support.
Verify with government-issued ID + selfie
Verify with government-issued ID + selfie
If you prefer not to provide your SSN, you can verify using a government-issued ID. Note that this method does not unlock selling cryptocurrency or the highest transaction limits.
Note: Passports and expired IDs are not accepted.
Best practices for ID photos:
Use a plain dark surface with good contrast
Ensure proper lighting (daylight or well-lit room)
Avoid using flash to prevent glare
Hold your device steady to avoid blurry images
Make sure no fingers are covering any part of the ID
Remove the ID from any wallet or holder
Step 1: Tap the government-issued ID banner
Tap the banner to verify your ID.
Step 2: Review the verification steps
You'll see an overview of the 3 steps ahead: a photo of your ID, a selfie, and a review of your information. Tap Continue to proceed.
Step 3: Take a photo of the front of your ID
Tap Launch Camera.
If prompted, tap Ok to allow camera access.
Center your ID within the frame, and hold steady — the app will take the photo automatically when your ID is in focus.
Ensure:
All 4 corners are visible
The ID is on a dark, plain surface (preferably black paper or cloth)
The ID is not in a wallet or case
There is no glare on the ID
The image is clear and not blurry
Step 4: Take a photo of the back of your ID
Flip your ID and tap Launch Camera. Follow the same guidelines, making sure the barcode is clearly visible.
Step 5: Take a selfie
Tap Launch Camera and center your face inside the oval on screen. The photo will be taken automatically.
Make sure:
Your face is clearly visible
You're in a well-lit area
Your face fills most of the frame
You're not wearing sunglasses or a hat
Step 6: Verify your information
Tap Verify Information to complete the final review of your legal name and address.
Step 7: Verification complete
Your account has been upgraded. You are now approved to transact up to $2,900 in cash per day and $2,900 in digital payments per day. Tap Transact Now to get started.
What if something goes wrong? If you encounter errors during ID verification, ensure your photos meet the guidelines above. If you continue to have issues, visit the article Issue with my identification verification.
