Creating an account
To buy, sell, send, and receive cryptocurrencies on Coinme, you'll need to create an account. Our services are currently only available in the U.S.
Important: Account creation is only available through the Coinme mobile app for iOS and Android devices. Once your account is created, you can log in from either the mobile app or the Coinme website using the same credentials.
Requirements to create an account
Age: +18 years old
Valid mobile number: Provided by a cellular service provider (such as T-Mobile, AT&T, etc.). A valid cellular number is used to validate that you are a real person and to secure your account.
Provide personal information: Your full name (as it appears on your ID), email address, date of birth, and residential address
Government-issued ID: For identity verification (driver's license or state-issued ID card)
We do not accept all VoIP carriers. If you need to verify if you can use your number, reach out to Customer Support.
Note: As a licensed money transmitter, Coinme is required to identify our customers at the time of purchase to prevent fraud, money laundering, or criminal activity from being involved with our service. To unlock the full potential of Coinme, ID verification is required.
Account verification levels
When you first create a Coinme account, you'll have limited functionality. To access all features, you'll need to upgrade your account through identity verification.
Unverified accounts can:
Buy at Coinstar kiosks
Send cryptocurrencies
Receive cryptocurrencies
Verified accounts unlock:
Ability to sell cryptocurrencies
Digital buy and sell using your debit card
Higher transaction limits
Two verification methods
Option 1: Social Security Number (recommended)
Fastest verification method (within seconds)
Unlocks the highest transaction limits Coinme offers
Information is encrypted and secure
Option 2: Government-issued ID + selfie
Alternative to providing SSN
Unlocks higher transaction limits (but not the highest)
Requires photo of ID front and back, plus a selfie
Note: Coinme is required to collect Social Security Numbers for customers who sell crypto and want to unlock the highest purchasing limits. See ssa.gov for more information on Social Security Numbers.
